Blak Cabaret

Blak Cabaret_editorialKicking off Malthouse Theatre’s 2015 Season, Blak Cabaret is back for another season after a sell-out run as part of the 2014 Melbourne Indigenous Arts Festival from 10 February.

Acting as the Prologue to the season’s three ‘chapters’, this outdoor party will feature some of Australia’s finest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander comedians, musicians, dancers and poets in the forecourt of the Malthouse’s iconic building

Joined by Michael Kantor as Directing Consultant, the line-up features legends of the scene and newcomers gaining national attention, Blak Cabaret celebrates the oral traditions so fundamental to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, creating a show that is funny, moving and the epitome of entertainment.

Kamahi Djordan King as his female alter-ego Constantina Bush will spread love and mayhem as MC, ensuring this reimagined cabaret show is a fitting party to launch Malthouse Theatre’s most ambitious season yet, and forms part of the inaugural SummerSalt Outdoor Arts Festival.

And she’s bringing with her blak royalty. Join Constantina and a host of Australia’s most celebrated radicals including Kutcha Edwards, Deline Briscoe, Nikki Ashby, Bart Willoughby and Emma Donovan for an uproarious and subversive party that lights up the night with music, comedy and dance.

“Constantina Bush is not afraid to push the boundaries… Her demeanour – totally unaffected by her own jokes – was similar to that of Kim from Kath and Kim, and so too was the feigned ignorance to her own inappropriateness.” – ABC Online
