Offering an intriguing insight into the lengths some go to for friendship and the chance at a new life, Black Swan presents a double bill of new plays by two of Western Australia’s hottest young playwrights in Loaded from 14 January 2016.
Following in the footsteps of Black Swan’s past Fringe World Festival smash hits: The Motherf**ker with the Hat (2013), Flood (2014) and Venus in Fur (2015), in 2016 and fresh out of WAAPA, Gita Bezard and Will O’Mahony deliver the world premiere of two award-winning plays out of the Emerging Writers Group, Girl Shut Your Mouth and Tonsils + Tweezers.

Katie is going to a place where people are friendly, the drinks are minty and no one tells you how to live your life. Her friends, Mia and Grace, wracked with jealousy, resolve to join Katie on her journey. The only problem is the price of admission!
“At a time when we collectively as a country lack empathy towards people who look different or sound different to us, I started writing what might happen if these girls looked and sounded like Australian girls, says Writer, Gita Bezard. “It’s a play about courage, the defiant teenage spirit and the lengths people will go to survive.”
Tonsils + Tweezers by Will O’Mahony
Tonsils and Tweezers are best friends, have been since high school. All that changes on the day of their 10 year high school reunion, when Tweezers reveals that he has a sure fire plan to make sure no one talks about “what they’ve been up to…”
Tonsils + Tweezers is a play about finding friends, losing friends, owning friends, and hating friends. A play about forgiveness, guilt, loathing and love,” says Writer and Director, Will O’Mahony. “A play that asks whether the veneer of our too-friendly world – a world so desperate to be our bestest of pals – risks reducing friendship to something sanitized, safe and sadly trivial.”
