Truth is exactly what Vincent seeks. As the sole survivor of a drowned Earth, he has spent his life travelling to a new planet, with only the spaceship’s virtual intelligence to keep him company. But after 25 years, he finds that he may not be alone on board. All he has ever known is limited to the computer’s memory and Vincent is about to discover the biggest secret of his life.

Between Solar Systems is a thrilling new original production by writer and director Scott McArdle, drawn from an infatuation of science-fiction film and television. “I grew up watching science-fiction… they were these big adventures of good versus evil, but as I grew up I started to become more interested in the setting, in space,” says McArdle.

“Alien has that great quote on the poster: ‘In space no one can hear you scream’. The rules are different out there. I wanted to explore what it was like to have been born out there, raised out there, and how the normal things for Vincent were strange for us.”

The theatrical experience is fully immersive as the spaceship begins to decay and presents glimpses of the Earth that once was. The elaborate set will be enhanced by specially crafted music and sound effects, and the seemingly omniscient, shifting voice of the spaceship’s virtual intelligence to create a space that is out of this world.

Scott McArdle is the founder of Second Chance Theatre. He has written ten shows for the company and directed nine, including Coincidences at the End of Time, which enjoyed a residency at Moore & Moore Café Gallery, a regional tour, and performances at Spare Parts Puppet Theatre (2014) and The Blue Room Theatre’s Summer Nights (2015).

Scott graduated from Murdoch University with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre & Drama in 2014, and was awarded the prestigious Theatre Student of the Year Award. In 2015, Scott is continuing to produce in Perth while pursuing his Honours degree at Murdoch University.
