Beige Brown and Co-Conspirators: Ms Beige Brown Goes Beyond

MICF-Ms-Beige-Brown-Goes-BeyondThe very first full-length show featuring beloved feminist performance poet Beige Brown, The Impending Room presents Ms Beige Brown Goes Beyond at the Queen Victoria Women’s Centre, as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Beige Brown must prove her value to a nation unaware of her existence as she vies for a new grant, title of Most Remarkable Artist and freedom to pursue her art, fully!

“Beige is a character who inspires genuine affection – for her hectic eloquence, her deep delusions, rejection of practicality or her chaotic attempts to make political statements through art!” says writer/performer Cathy Hunt. “Beige’s work is too radical for Australia to understand. This is her tragedy.”

Beige began as a pub cabaret act, sparked by poetry professors who pushed their own experimental works on students. Beige performed recently at Get Bent Festival in Midsumma and at 45downstairs’ spoken word circle. Wombless Without Words – a short doco about her writers’ block screened at WOW World of Women Film Festival 2016.

This show has its roots in a joyous fight back against the mundane way Centrelink saw artists throughout the pandemic, as inessential workers. “For audiences,” says co-conspirator and performer Shannon Loughnane.

“This show is like a weird talent quest held in the bowels of a drab council building meets an unhinged Jobseeker appointment on speed or even a wonky spoken word evening where you’ll be clicking your fingers and giving snaps to a ridiculous and obscure performance poet.”

“Wildly bonkers and such an adventure to live vicariously through an endearing heart warming artist who is in the throes of unemployment lol!” – Vivian Nguyen
