When Australian Dance Theatre first presented Garry Stewart’s work in London 12 years ago it was described by The Times as ‘the most hazardous explosion of movement seen in London in years’. Since then Australian Dance Theatre has gone on to astound audiences around the globe with its uniquely powerful style of contemporary dance and celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2015.
Nine outstanding dancers portray an emotional world in which Garry Stewart poses the question – What am I? How do you define a human being and what does it take to be you? Be Your Self explores the fundamental question about ‘self’ using the body as the focus for this inquiry. The result is a performance filled with dynamic vitality that is breathtaking to watch and stimulating to think about.
Be Your Self is one of Garry Stewart’s most composite works to date. It will leave you wondering – what else is possible with the human body as a means of physical expression?
“…a slick production performed by a confident company of strong dancers that literally fling themselves into the physicality of the choreography.” – Daily Telegraph
