He was known as ‘the boy who lived’ – for more than 25 years, Harry Potter and the wizarding world universe has intrigued wizards and muggles alike.
Now, his not-so-famous cousin, Barry Potter, has taken up residence in Melbourne at the appropriately named, Elephant and Wheelbarrow, to serve up an hour of miraculous fun with the untold story of Barry Potter and the Magic of Wizardry.
With more than a nod to his famous cousin, Barry Potter is the creation of Tim Motley, an award-winning comedian and magician and a veteran of festivals the world over.
Resplendent in the familiar uniform of a certain ‘school of magic’ – Motley instantly endears himself to his enthusiastic audience who delight in the variety of magic tricks on offer, peppered with appropriately timed puns and references to the realm.
From the get go, it is clear Motley revels in an atmosphere of controlled chaos, where one wrong move could see it all go astray. But Motley is a master of his craft and fully adept in the art of illusion. From basic wand work, classic sleight of hand tricks, through to more mind-blowing displays of mentalism, Motely has all bases covered.
Motley has a canny ability to put each willing (or not so willing) participant, young and old, with ease, with some very amusing results… each trick builds to a surprising finale that still has me intrigued.
Barry Potter and the Magic of Wizardry is a terrific family-friendly hour of fun that will delight audiences of all ages.
