The Sydney Opera House is inviting people to share their favourite moments at the iconic venue, with a selection to be projected on to the sails in early 2021, as part of a new campaign, Where Memories Are Made.
The Opera House is calling for inspiring stories from artists, audiences and visitors that capture the magic of Bennelong Point – whether an incredible show, a special celebration, a surprise celebrity meeting, a community occasion or something behind-the-scenes.
“Since opening almost fifty years ago, the Opera House has played a central role in creating countless stories, memories and shared experiences,” said Sydney Opera House CEO Louise Herron AM.
“With restrictions easing and our cities beginning to open up, we are inviting people to share their favourite Opera House memories – some of which will be projected on to the sails – and importantly, to come back, to create new memories with us.”
“We want everyone to feel welcome and inspired by the magic of the Opera House, whether seeing a brilliant show, enjoying a meal or just being at this special place,” said Ms Herron.
As well as lighting the sails, the campaign will include newly created content inspired by people’s personal stories and experiences of the world-famous arts and cultural centre, which will be shared across the Opera House’s large online community and via other channels in the coming months.
“The reopening of the Opera House is a symbolic moment for Australia,” said NSW Minister for the Arts Don Harwin. “It sends a positive message about the revitalisation of Sydney’s cultural landscape after a period of hibernation due to COVID-19.”
“The illumination of the sails by the community, for the community, is a wonderful way to celebrate the reopening of our city and for us all to reconnect with the transformative power of the arts,” said Harwin.
Australians are encouraged to share the Opera House moments that matter most to them. We want to hear about special memories and personal experiences that have brought people together under the sails.
Who were you with? How did you feel? What did it mean to you? Submissions of photography, video, illustrations, voice messages/recordings and written form are all encouraged.
The date of the sails illumination will be confirmed closer to the time. Submissions are now open and close 31 December 2020. For more information, visit: www.sydneyoperahouse.com for details. Terms and conditions of entry are available here!
