Around the World in 80 Days

Around the World in 80 Days3 actors, 39 characters, 7 countries… one extraordinary experience! Prepare for an epic adventure as Around the World in 80 Days takes flight in an Australian premiere season at The Alex Theatre from 23 August 2016.

Adapted by Toby Hulse, based on the novel by Jules Verne and directed by Award-winning director Terence O’Connell, Around the World in 80 Days features three extraordinarily talented actors: Ian Stenlake, Pia Miranda & Grant Piro.

Stampeding elephants! Raging typhoons! Runaway trains! Unabashedly slapstick! Hold onto your seats for the original amazing race! Join fearless adventurer Phileas Fogg and his faithful manservant Passepartout as they set out to win an outrageous wager by circling the globe in an unheard of – 80 days.

Danger, romance, and comic surprises abound in this whirlwind of a show as three actors portraying 39 characters traverse seven continents in one of the great adventures of all time – taking you from London to Bombay, Yokohama to San Francisco, through typhoons, out-of-control trains and into the deepest reaches of your imagination.

Phileas Fogg says he can race from London to London in a mere 80 days, but the pressure is on and time is running out. At his side, a band of quirky adventurers. At their heels, a relentless Scotland Yard detective. At stake, surviving utterly fantastic adventures across India, China, Japan and America – beating the clock – and winning the bet. This is no movie… this is theatre at its most magical and transporting!

“We are delighted to be producing the Australian premiere of this new adaptation of a classic story told in a completely unexpected way,” says Producer Helen Ellis. “Audiences are going to be taken on an extraordinary trip around the globe without ever leaving St Kilda.”

“An inventive romp…Something for everyone; though the characters may not yet have the ability to fly, this production certainly does.” – The Stage
