Straight off the stage from their first show as special guests with AC/DC on their POWER UP Australian tour, the band will unleash their signature ferocity in the heart of the city with a special surprise gig, free to all rock fans, announced just two days before showtime.

Expect breakneck riffs, sweat, noise and the kind of unfiltered energy that has made Amyl and The Sniffers one of the world’s most electrifying live acts.

Housemates turned bandmates in 2016, Amy Taylor (vocals), Bryce Wilson (drums), Dec Mehrtens (guitar) and Gus Romer (bass), have quickly progressed from backyard jam sessions to performing on the world’s biggest stages, becoming one of Australia’s most successful rock exports.

Fronted by Taylor, who has fast established herself as one of the world’s most iconic and recognisable frontwomen, they’ve built a global reputation for raw, fearless performances and undeniable stage presence. Their latest album Cartoon Darkness has earned rave reviews across the globe and multiple awards including Best Live Act and Best LP at the Rolling Stone Australia Awards.

And with sold-out tours across the US, UK, Europe and South America, plus a string of blistering festival appearances from Glastonbury to Coachella, Amyl and The Sniffers have become synonymous with the raw, unrelenting spirit of Australian rock.

Opening the night are Public Figures, one of Melbourne’s most exciting new pop-rock acts: the passion project of Evie Vlah (Sunfruits, Mika James) and Gigi Argiro (Sunfruits, Folk Bitch Trio, Elizabeth M Drummond). They’ll fire up the crowd with a mix of AC/DC’s greatest hits and their own high-energy originals, setting the stage for a full-throttle night in the Square.

Katrina Sedgwick OAM, Director & CEO of MAP Co, said the event continues Fed Square’s tradition of delivering unforgettable, free live music in the city’s heart. “Amyl and The Sniffers are one of Australia’s most explosive live acts. Fearless, magnetic, and completely unmissable,” said Sedgwick.

High Voltage continues Fed Square’s commitment to bringing iconic artists to the heart of Melbourne, celebrating the city’s proud music heritage with events that are free, open and welcoming to all.”

With High Voltage, Fed Square continues its streak of major outdoor gigs that have seen tens of thousands pack the Square this year for free performances by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Kneecap, Robbie Williams, and more. As Melbourne gears up for AC/DC’s POWER UP tour, the city’s rock legacy roars to life.

High Voltage featuring Amyl and The Sniffers is proudly presented by Fed Square, City of Melbourne and Double J, celebrating the arrival of AC/DC’s POWER UP tour to the city. For more information, visit: www.fedsquare.com for details.
