City Recital Hall DIVA Amelia Farrugia Paying tribute to the lives and careers of Australian divas June Bronhill and Dame Joan Sutherland, popular soprano Amelia Farrugia stars in the world premiere of DIVA at City Recital Hall on Friday 25 August 2017.

Taking audiences on an uplifting and entertaining operatic journey, DIVA showcases the repertoire that made Bronhill and Sutherland household names in Australia and brought them acclaim internationally.

Interspersed with stories of their life and career told by script writer and compere Guy Noble, Amelia will perform popular songs and arias from opera and operetta including Faust, La Traviata, La Rondine, Manon, The Merry Widow, Orpheus in the Underworld, and The Sound of Music.

Amelia will also perform the famous aria that Sutherland and Bronhill both sang at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Lucia di Lammermoor. Additionally, the concert will feature original compositions by Australian composer, Elena Kats-Chernin.

Since making her professional debut in Buddy the Musical (1990), Amelia has had a highly successful and varied Australian and International career in Opera, Musical Theatre, Symphony Concert, Recital, Recording, Television, Corporate Events, Large-Scale Outdoor Events, including Final Mass World Youth Day for Pope Benedict XXI.

Amelia’s debut album Joie de Vivre! was released on the DECCA label, the very first solo Australian recording artist since Dame Joan Sutherland in 1959. Amelia’s performing career has taken her all over the world, including Glyndebourne Festival UK, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Malta, Florence & Spoleto Italy & The Metropolitan Opera in New York.
