Rooted in self-reflection, catharsis and silliness, Doggo is Alice Tovey’s most ambitious work to date, blending song, sketches and satire at The Butterfly Club as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival until 11 April 2021.
Alice asks: Am I the kind of person that my dog thinks I am? How can I be the type of person my dog would be proud of? It’s a show about being unapologetically yourself, and in true Alice style, will be filled with songs and hilarious sketches.
Through her unique, musical and provocative lens, Alice blends elements of musical comedy, experimental performance, burlesque, and immersive theatre to create an hour of pop bangers, sketch and sizzling satire that will leave audiences begging for more. Bring a doggy bag, there will be plenty to take home!
Alice Tovey is a singer, songwriter and self-proclaimed feminist rock-god who is eclectically a classically trained opera singer. She has been performing for over eight years and has toured award-winning shows.
Her inaugural show alice earned her an Adelaide Fringe Award for Best Emerging Artist at the weekly awards. Alice’s 2019 show Garbage Monster was her most critically acclaimed season to date, receiving multiple five-star reviews and an extended season in her home town of Melbourne.
In Doggo, audiences can expect an exploration of joy, an emotion that her beagle named Arj Barker gives her. Doggo was due to debut at the 2020 MICF but has evolved for 2021 as Alice touches on a year spent in the most challenging of times. Known for reinventing herself every year, Alice will dazzle audiences with a pop anthology that will unleash and set you free.
