Affair Play

Freshly Ground Theatre Affair PlayA fast-paced, sharp, contemporary nod to the much-loved bedroom farce, Freshly Ground Theatre hit the stage with it’s latest premiere season, Affair Play at the Brunswick Mechanics Institute from 9 December 2015.

Infidelity is the most universally disapproved of, yet popular, pastime on Earth. By a mile. It’s as old as sex. Literally. Serving up two jaded couples, four lovers, and one absurd web of infidelity, Affair Play unravels over the course of one turbulent dinner as four would-be adults scheme their way into each other’s pants.

Re-imagining this classic style of theatre, and carving their own distinct brand of narrative comedy since 2008, Affair Play is the next fresh work from Freshly Ground Theatre, following on from successful past seasons including: Not Axel Harrison, My Brain Made Me Do it, and Every Base Covered.

Undoubtedly one of the hardest genres to write for, Freshly Ground Theatre is a rare addition to our theatrical landscape, being one of a handful of young companies that are dedicated to writing and creating new Australian comedy for our stages.

Explaining the Company’s focus, writer and ensemble member Sam Floyd comments: “Comedy is everything that drama is, then some. With a sharper eye, and an even wilder mind,” says Floyd. “I love a premise that creates a pressure cooker, and leaves its characters nowhere to hide. So we can get close enough to see the sparks and beads of sweat. The harder you look the funnier it gets.”
