Adelaide Fringe: HANS: Like A German

hans-like-a-german_mainMatt Gilbertson AKA Hans, brought his inimitable brand of cabaret to a packed and enthusiastic audience at the Spiegeltent last night.

More reminiscent of a Vegas show, Matt had the full house hanging on his every word.  The band of “Ungrateful Bastards” provided the musical backdrop for Hans and his “Lucky Bitches”. The Spiegeltent provided the perfect staging and lighting for Matt to weave his magic with glitzy costumes and Hollywood style makeup.

A featured 4 minute segue of all the best that is Cabaret had the crowd singing in their rather hard Spiegel seats.  The addition of four gorgeous dancers (Lucky Bitches) with slick routines complimented Matt’s well thought out show.

There were many highlights on the night including the impromptu addition of Owen (The Stalker) from the audience and a raunchy accordion driven song centre stage to the delight of the house.

Matt relies not only upon his ability as a dancer and musician but mostly on his razor sharp wit that always ends up in an abundance of laughter.  With songs from Beyonce, Carly Simon (No body does it better than Hans), Blurred Lines and Britney Spears “Work it Bitch”, Hans is the ultimate crowd pleaser.

This is most certainly my pick of the fringe, worth every penny.  There is one more show on Monday 10 March at the Spiegeltent – Book your tickets now Bitches … (I want to go again!)
