A Play About Ivy, that is Really About June

TW-Olive-Weeks-A-Play-About-Ivy-that-is-Really-About-JuneA coming-of-age story that interrogates the perimeters of friendship as we know it, A Play About Ivy, that is Really About June by Olive Weeks will be presented in a world premiere season at Theatre Works from 5 October, as part of the 2022 Melbourne Fringe.

In a new apartment devoid of June, Ivy faces being alone for the first time in her life. Join Ivy as she reconciles with her own company, heartbreak, and solitude.

Meet Ivy, a delightfully messy, heartsore, impulsive 21-year-old who is now living alone. Ivy’s trying really hard to find solace, comfort and joy in the new space. Well, JOY is probably pushing it. Maybe contentment instead? Pleasure? Yes, pleasure. Let’s just focus on getting enough sleep for now. And learning how to be alone. And healing.

Meet June, a heart with so much love to give and a deep seeded enigmatic darkness those around latch onto. It is the first time June is coming over to the new place after leaving Ivy in their home of two years. Come pay homage to that person, who for a moment held your entire heart, focus and motivation.

Written and Directed by Olive Weeks, teamed with Dramaturgs Tansy Gorman & Enya Daly and Producer Flick, A Play About Ivy, that is Really About June is a dynamic play dancing with memory, humour and poetry.

“This play makes my heart ache and scream with joy all at once,” said Weeks. “Come and be immersed in a gripping celebration of how even when we find ourselves alone without that person, we somehow keep going, growing, wanking, moving and loving.”

Playing for a limited season in October 2022, A Play About Ivy, that is Really About June is a brazenly heartfelt and delicately intimate World Premiere, that is not to be missed!
