Sydney Festival has announced further casting for the critically acclaimed Girl From The North Country which opens at the Theatre Royal Sydney in January, before heading to Adelaide in March 2022.
The stellar cast now includes AFI winner Peter Kowitz (Janet King, Heisenberg), Helpmann Award-winners Christina O’Neill (Avenue Q, Calamity Jane) and Greg Stone (Oklahoma!, Once), Grant Piro (The Producers, Escape From Pretoria) and Chemon Theys (Faust).
Written and directed by multi award-winner Conor McPherson (The Weir, The Seafarer), Girl From The Country also features previously announced cast members, stage and screen icon Lisa McCune, Zahra Newman (The Book of Mormon), Terence Crawford (The Babadook) and Helpmann Award winners Helen Dallimore and Peter Carroll.
They are joined by Tony Cogin, Laurence Coy, Blake Erickson, Elizabeth Hay, Samantha Morley, James Smith and Liam Wigney who round out the cast. Musicians Tracy Lynch, Cam (CJ Stranger) Henderson and Mark Harris, join Musical Director, Andrew Ross.
After sold out seasons on the West End and Broadway, Girl From The North Country has taken the theatrical world by storm and is now one of the most critically acclaimed productions of the 21st Century.
Featuring the songs of Bob Dylan beautifully reimagined, this feel-good tale of 1930s American life centres around a group of wanderers who cross paths at a Minnesota guest house: the owner, Nick, owes more money than he can ever repay, his wife Elizabeth’s mind is slowly deteriorating and their daughter Marianne is carrying a child no-one will account for.
And, when a preacher selling bibles, and a boxer looking for a comeback turn up in the middle of the night, things start to spiral beyond the point of no return. Standing at a turning point in their lives, they search for a future, hide from the past, and face unspoken truths about the present.
