A self-reflective Saturday night chat in the intimate Dunstan Playhouse, Eddie Perfect shares where the last couple of years have taken him in his latest Cabaret show, Introspective.

One of Melbourne’s favourite musical boy-genius’ to Broadway’s newcomer cutting his teeth on the harsh reality of the Broadway theatre scene, Eddie returns home the hero-son to Melbourne’s Covid lockdowns.

Riches to rags to riches again, Eddie is never self-important but takes his Aussie larrikin persona back to his own Aussie audiences, who cheer and love his self-deprecating honesty. Genuinely raw, authentic and humorous, Eddie wins his audiences, and that’s even before the music starts!

Eddie has a casualness that takes his musical talent in his stride and the audience is constantly reminded that despite his unguarded ramble with friends about his brutal battle with success and failure, his command of the piano is beautiful and arresting – accompanied by Anita Quayle on cello, and Xani Kolac on violin, creating a passion and depth to the musical stage.

Eddie’s musical talent is undeniable – glorious music to be lost in. Eddie’s ability is to make such passionate sophisticated musical scores float with ease and stand along-side his witty, everyday-human lyrics that take the listener from Covid-inflicted Bin-night, to Dead Mom, to the remorse of getting a Rescue Dog. How Eddie manages to get ‘google’ and ‘quoka’ into his lyrics are testament to his talent as a lyricist and Aussie musical icon.

Eddie reminisces about moving his family and career to the Upper West Side of Manhattan, throwing himself into the Broadway circuit putting his own creativity, passion and sanity on the line, night after night, and he shares with the audience how the musicals King Kong and Beetlejuice changed his world. And then Covid happened.

Audiences are taken through New York’s brutal creation process, to the heights of the review circuit, the sleepless-wandering nights through the Manhattan streets, and the melancholic life or death of fledgling birds – the metaphor to his own journey. And he soars!

Eddie finishes his night ramble with his mates, sharing his final vengeance, Death to the Critic, from his up and coming musical. It is Eddie at his best. Witty, and unashamedly Aussie, audiences loved him that little bit more. Thanks for a great Saturday night Eddie Perfect!
