Having already delighted and dumbfounded audiences across Australia, The Bloomshed presents The Nose at Theatre Works and Courthouse Youth Arts for limited seasons this August.
Emerging writer and theatre maker James Jackson, in collaboration with performers Elizabeth Brennan and Tom Molyneux, has taken inspiration from Russian author Nikolai Gogol’s famous short story and turned it into something reflective of the dystopian post-paradise of 2018.
A CEO is crying in front of a mirror. His nose is gone. Worse. It’s running through the city streets dressed up as the President of Honduras. This is the moment its been waiting for. This is its chance for freedom. Disparate narratives collide around the missing appendage, as the CEO tries to win back some control. The Nose is a hilarious farce about people falling to pieces amid total economic chaos.
Born out of the wintry depths of a suburban backyard shed, The Bloomshed aims to create cutting edge, political theatre. Reinvigorating classic texts through a combination of new writing and devising, The Nose is the company’s latest attempt to create something new by cannibalising the old.
Like everything else, The Nose is a rotting corpse, reanimated and stumbling around for your pleasure. Winner of the Festival Directors Award at the 2017 Sydney Fringe Festival.
