The Carpet Room at the Forum Theatre is an intimate space that seemed a good fit for Ciaran Lyon’s type of observational comedy – a light-hearted look through some of the experiences he’s had since leaving childhood behind.
Possessing a healthy dash of charisma, Ciaran quickly built a rapport with the audience, delivering an amusing set over his almost-hour. Audience interaction can be hit or miss or utter calamity, however, what was great about what Ciaran was doing, was being able to interact with the audience in a genuine way, yet not have his material dependant on getting certain answers from them.
Regardless of whether he got a response he expected (or no answer at all), he was able to move to the next joke without hesitating or letting things get awkward. The regular call-backs to earlier jokes as things progressed was also a nice touch, keeping the audience engaged and laughing.
