Following a sold-out debut season, the award-winning original musical Mayfair: A New Musical, created by the creative duo Ian Tassicker and Jasper Cruden, brings the familiar world of classic boardgames to life in a hilarious and imaginative adventure, to Chapel Off Chapel this October.
The show tells the story of Scott, an ‘all work, no play’ lawyer who finds himself catapulted into a world populated by singing, dancing, larger-than-life characters personifying classic board games.
After joining a misfit group of games trapped under the rule of a top hat toting tyrant, Scott finds he had better learn to loosen up and play well with others quickly, or risk a dark fate.
“Some might say we’re crazy for doing one season in Perth and then immediately traveling across the country for our next step… and they’re probably right,” says producer/composer Jasper Cruden.
“But the level of talent we saw in the auditions for such a new and unknown show really blew us away and convinced us that we’ve made the right choice. The cast and creative team we’ve assembled is incredible, and I can’t wait to see what they do with the material.”
What can audiences expect from Mayfair? A full-scale, 2-act musical (complete with swingin’ 11-piece live orchestra) that seamlessly blends comedy, adventure, action and drama with a healthy dose of heart and sincerity.
“We grew up on the 90’s era Disney musicals and wanted to create something that captured the spirit of those films,” says producer/playwright Ian Tassicker. “Just with a contemporary flavour and the occasional F-bomb.”
Mayfair: A New Musical was originally presented in Perth in 2025 under the title, Monopoly: The Unauthorised Musical.
