Who is Cara Bessey?
Cara Bessey is a strong woman who knows how to make light of rough situations. She is kind, caring, loves hard and will always fight for the people she loves. She loves being silly and having fun with her friends and adores her partner and family.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
Absolutely nothing. I love what I do and I am so proud of how hard I’ve worked and how resilient I’ve been to get here.
Who inspires you and why?
I think all of the SIX Cast. They are honestly so amazing and every day, I’m in awe of them and what they bring to their roles and just how wonderful they are as humans. I feel very lucky to be part of such an amazing company.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Oh gosh, what wouldn’t I do?! What wouldn’t anyone do?! The world is such a mess. I think what we do as performers can really make a difference to peoples lives though. We’re here because we were once wishing to be where we are or seeking to be inspired and Music Theatre really does make an impact.
When you’re having a tough day, it’s not unusual to hear someone throw out the line “we’re not saving lives, it’s okay!”. But I think for some, we honestly are. The arts can make a HUGE difference in the world and for individuals and I think if we had more of that free expression, it could change everything.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
London or Switzerland! They are both so magical in their own ways and I just feel so at home being over in Europe.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Well I’m from Canberra so if someone were visiting me there, I would probably take them on a drive around to see all the sights like Parliament House (old and new), Questacon (classic!) and just places I grew up and where I went to school.
What are you currently reading?
Nothing! But my favourite book series is Once by Morris Gleitzman. Absolutely phenomenal and heartbreaking and will have you in TEARS. And he’s an Aussie!
What are you currently listening to?
I’m loving Amber Mark’s Pretty Idea album at the moment. I’ve had By The End of the Night on repeat.
Happiness is?
Being surrounded by love and respect. For yourself and others.
What does the future hold for you?
I mean who can really say right? I would hope it’s full of more amazing music theatre opportunities. Maybe getting married, having a baby. But who knows right? I’m looking forward to getting there.
