International thriller The Girl On The Train makes its Canberra stage premiere

Mockingbird Theatre Company presents The Girl On The TrainFollowing the success of its acclaimed 2026 MainStage season, Mockingbird Theatre Company will present the Canberra premiere of the gripping stage adaptation of The Girl On The Train in a strictly limited season this August.

Based on Paula Hawkins’ internationally bestselling 2015 novel and the DreamWorks Pictures film starring Emily Blunt, the psychological thriller has captivated audiences around the world with its intricate mystery, unreliable narration and edge-of-your-seat suspense.

Having sold more than 20 million copies worldwide before inspiring a major motion picture, Hawkins’ story now arrives in the nation’s capital in its acclaimed theatrical form.

Adapted for the stage by Rachel Wagstaff and Duncan Abel, the play premiered in 2018 and has since enjoyed successful productions internationally. Retaining the novel’s shifting perspectives and nail-biting tension, the adaptation transforms the story into a compelling theatrical experience that keeps audiences guessing until its final moments.

Rachel Watson longs for a different life. Her only escape is the seemingly perfect couple she watches through the train window each day: happy, beautiful and deeply in love. Or so it appears.

When the woman she has been secretly observing suddenly disappears, Rachel is drawn into a dangerous investigation where memory cannot be trusted, everyone has something to hide, and the truth proves darker than she could ever have imagined.

Directed and designed by Chris Baldock, the Canberra production features Timothy Cusack, Sabrina Fu, Morgan Heath-Williams, Ankush Singh Khanchi, Paul Sweeney, Susie Todd and Robert Wearden.

The Girl On The Train promises an evening of suspense, intrigue and unexpected twists as one of the world’s most successful psychological thrillers makes its long-awaited Canberra debut.
