Who is Meechot Marrero?
A joyful Puerto Rican soul motivated by authenticity, gratitude, creativity and service. I’m also a soprano and storyteller who loves great conversations, spontaneous adventures, and finding beauty in unexpected places.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
I’d take more time celebrating milestones as they happened. Every audition, every debut, every lesson learned along the way deserves a little more recognition and appreciation from my own self; something I’m 100% aware of and actively working to change.
Who inspires you and why?
The people closest to me: my fiancé who wakes up every day to help make the world a better place for ALL sentient beings, my parents who are my strongest roots and have devoted their lives to educating and uplifting others, my sisters who throw themselves wholeheartedly into everything they do, and my best friend who has taught me that life’s deepest connections can transform your life.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I would continue building bridges – between people, cultures, and communities. As someone who has lived and worked across different countries and languages, I’ve seen first-hand how much we have in common despite our differences. Music allows me to do that and if my work can help someone feel seen, comforted, inspired, or simply less alone, then I feel I’ve made a difference
Favorite holiday destination and why?
Puerto Rico! I have the luxury of coming from an island most people visit as a holiday destination so going back home means quality time with my loved ones, delicious food, pristine beaches, hearing the coquí at night (a tiny frog native to only the island) and enjoying the vibrant culture that shaped a big part of my life.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I AM the friend! Where should I go? Australia has just recently become my home so I’m slowly exploring and getting to know all of its magic. The first thing that comes to mind, since we’re based in Sydney, is of course, the Sydney Opera House, but if you have any recommendations, please send them my way!
What are you currently reading?
I finally got my hands on Rick Rubin’s The Creative Act: A Way of Being and I cannot wait to dig in! I’ve only heard great things about it.
What are you currently listening to?
Joy. (ft Absolutely and Amma) from Raye’s latest album, This Music May Contain Hope, pretty much on repeat.
Happiness is?
The smell of coffee in the morning, the sound of rain, a piña colada on a hot summer day by the beach, the gentle warmth of the sun on my face on a cold winter day, connecting with an audience, collaborating with fellow artists, and spending time with the people I love.
What does the future hold for you?
Hopefully a beautiful and unforgettable wedding celebration in Puerto Rico, continued adventures on stages around the world, and exciting new artistic projects. Most of all, I hope the future holds plenty of reasons to remain grateful.
