Stellar Cast announced for Grey Gardens at fortyfivedownstairs

AAR 45DS The Cast of Grey GardensFollowing the announcement that Australian theatre luminaries Helen Dallimore (Wicked, Legally Blonde) and Deidre Rubenstein (My Fair Lady, Shakespeare in Love) will lead the Melbourne revival of the musical Grey Gardens, producers Clovelly Fox and fortyfivedownstairs are delighted to reveal the stellar cast joining them this July!

Renowned music theatre star David Hobson (The Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Boulevard, The Sound of Music) joins an ensemble that includes celebrated stage and screen actor Nick Simpson-Deeks (The Newsreader, Deadloch, Falsettos), and rising stars Meg Williams, Luke Ward, Evan Evans, and Adeline Hunter.

“From the moment Helen and Deidre joined the production, I knew we had something special,” said director Tyran Parke. “To now welcome an artist of David Hobson’s stature, alongside the extraordinarily versatile Nick Simpson-Deeks, and an exciting new generation of performers in Megan, Luke, Evan and Adeline, gives us a company capable of bringing every ounce of heart and humour to this remarkable musical.”

With a soaring score by Scott Frankel and Michael Korie, and a Tony Award-winning book by Doug Wright, Grey Gardens depicts the complex relationship between Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter “Little Edie”, the eccentric and (thanks to the 1976 documentary of the same name) iconic relatives of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

By turns hilarious and haunting, the musical charts their journey from high society glamour to a reclusive co-existence in a decaying East Hamptons mansion known as Grey Gardens.

Playing at fortyfivedownstairs, this strictly limited season marks the first Melbourne production of the cult favourite musical since 2011.
