Who is Tane Williams-Accra?
Tane Williams-Accra is an African/Kiwi performing artist who loves the process of creation, the energetic transaction of performing and the power of storytelling.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
I’m currently lying on the couch in my dressing room during dinner break from our first day of tech rehearsal at the Theatre Royal in Sydney and I definitely wish I hadn’t eaten so much.
Who inspires you and why?
My mum is definitely my main inspiration. She’s shown me how to work hard, be there for the people you love and give selflessly and endlessly. My absolute idol.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
It can sound corny but I actually want to teach people how to meditate. When you become present, you not only become aware of things about yourself, but also the fact that you don’t need 99% of the things we think we need to find peace. The emotional sensations we believe we need physical experiences and material possessions to give us are actually available to us whenever we want. All we need to do is shut up for a while.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
Fiji is up there. I’ve been there a few times, and the locals are so lovely. Plus, the scenery is absolutely stunning.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I’m big into health and fitness these days so probably a nice sauna/spa/cold plunge spot. Suzie Qs is one of my favourite places to eat in Melbourne, so we’d have to go there. Maybe a beach down the coast or a hike up in the Dandenong ranges for some fresh air.
What are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading a book called Apeirogon by Colum McCann. It’s an incredible book referred to me by mum, about two men who both lost children to the occupation of Palestine. One Palestinian. One Jewish. They’ve come together as part of a group called parents against war and now travel the world speaking of their experiences in order to end the war.
It’s heart breaking, uplifting and perspective shifting. Two men with so many reasons to hate the world and yet they’re using their pain to try and help it. It’s written fantastically, with interesting stories woven through out, that initially seem unrelated until they tie back into the story in some way. Highly recommend!
What are you currently listening to?
As I write this I’m actually listening to Gimmitap by Randy Tchik. BANGER.
Happiness is?
The ability to find gratitude for the smallest things, as often as you possible can.
What does the future hold for you?
Lots of gratitude!
