With just a week to go before Sydney Film Festival (SFF) opens, the Cannes Film Festival just announced their top prizes winners – with almost all screening at SFF, including Palme d’Or winner, Fjord.
The full list of winners include: Fjord, winner of the prestigious Palme d’Or; Minotaur, winner of the Grand Prix; The Dreamed Adventure, winner of the Jury Prize; Fatherland, winner Best Director; Everytime, winner Un Certain Regard; Ben’Imana, winner of the Camera d’Or; I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning, winner of the Directors’ Fortnight Audience Award; and Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma, winner of the Queer Palm.
As with last year’s screenings of It Was Just an Accident, Sentimental Value, and The Secret Agent, Sydney Film Festival continues to be the first place in the world these culture-shaping films can be seen outside of Cannes.
Winners, Minotaur director Andrey Zvyagintsev and Ben’Imana director Marie-Clémentine Dusabejambo, will be in attendance at the Festival to introduce the Australian Premieres of their award-winning films to audiences in Sydney.
“I’m feeling excited and energised about the state of world cinema, following an invigorating time at the Cannes Film Festival. I’d seen many of these films while selecting them but watching them come alive with an audience has renewed my excitement to share them with you next in Sydney,” said Sydney Film Festival Director Nashen Moodley.
