Who is Dolly Diamond?
A clown and someone who loves what they do and loves to make people laugh. I’m much more comfortable in my own skin these days and I’m loving my life and the opportunities I get travelling around Australia and in Europe. I think it’s important to be grateful and although I feel like I’ve worked hard to be where I am, I don’t take it for granted.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
If I’d listened more when I was at school (instead of delivering a tight ten comedy set at every opportunity), I might’ve wanted to be a teacher, most likely drama… I do love a bit of drama.
Who inspires you and why?
I got a lot of who I am from my parents, my Mum’s warmth and emotional side and my Dad’s ability to sell ice to the Eskimo’s. They definitely inspired me growing up… Dame Edna, Julian Clary and a countless list of people who have maintained a long and inventive career inspire me.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Continue to fight against inequality, transphobia, homophobia, racism and the list goes on.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
I absolutely love Sitges (Spain), it’s an hour from Barcelona and by the sea. I try to get there once a year and do a show at El Piano (7 July) It has so much character and is wonderfully welcoming.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
So many places in Melbourne… Arts Centre Melbourne always has something on. Grouse in Fitzroy (part owner), it’s a bit cheeky but a very welcoming bar – it’s the perfect pit stop before a fun night out. A list of restaurants as long as your arm.
What are you currently reading?
Happy-Go-Lucky by David Sedaris.
What are you currently listening to?
The Devil Wears Prada soundtrack
Happiness is?
Spending time with my friends and family and being able to be yourself in this world without judgement.
What does the future hold for you?
Hopefully more of the same… I’m heading to Europe later this month and I’m over there for three months. I’ll be back in Australia in September and ready for Spring.
