Fresh off a sell-out run at Edinburgh Fringe 2025, Excel professional David Benaim is bringing Excel comedy & Mathem-antics – his comedy show devoted to spreadsheets and mathematics to Adelaide Fringe this March.
David doesn’t just love Excel; he is considered by Microsoft to be amongst the top 100 or so Excel people worldwide by holding the Microsoft MVP award for 5 years.
David has incorporated into his stand-up comedy show some rarely known, yet useful spreadsheet tricks that always wow the room, explored in a lively segment of crowd work. The show also features an emotional tribute to computer pioneer and mathematician Alan Turing before closing off with a few final minutes of stand-up.
Despite Excel being ubiquitous, David is perhaps the only person to create a one-hour comedy special about it, which about =SUM’s him up. Newcomer David has never performed any other show professionally but managed a sell-out run in a sixty-seat venue for the full run of Edinburgh Fringe because people really seem to care about Excel.
So many people love to hate Excel or hate to love spreadsheets, so many become proud of the formula they took two hours getting right, and so many others become the go-to Excel person at their office.
As certain professionals use Excel for 30+ hours per week, this is, at long last, a comedy show where the techies, the accountants and the geeks can proudly sit and laugh at something that is a substantial portion of their day-to-day.
David was born in the Bahamas, grew up in Gibraltar, & has spent most of his adult life living in Cambodia, where he is one of the main Comedy in Cambodia organisers. He has dedicated his professional career to helping people through spreadsheets via training, webinars & an active YouTube tutorial channel with 20k+ subscribers.
David dreams that the average person knew their way around Excel as much as they know their way around their smart phone, they could even combine the two, just as Kelly Rowland did in ‘Dilemma’ – when she texted Nelly via Excel.
