Who is Jade Franks?
I am a writer/performer from Liverpool in the UK. I write comedy-dramas with big fun characters underpinned by themes of class inequality.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
I’d probably be a teacher or work in a job where I can support young people get to where they wanna be in life.
Who inspires you and why?
My brother and sister. He is a doctor – so whenever work is stressing me out its good to remind myself that I’m not saving lives like he is – lol. And my sister, because she quit her corporate job to move to Australia to build a new life for herself – both very brave and cool people.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I would make arts education more comprehensive. Abolish private schools. Redistribute the wealth! Make trains in the UK actually work and run on time and not be hundreds of pounds.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
Benidorm or LA. Nowhere in between. Both places are full of the biggest and best characters.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
There’s so much to do in Liverpool! Most Museums and Galleries in a city outside of London. Oldest Chinatown in Europe. Best football club in the world. Most fun nightlife. I could go on and on, but I’d probably take them to my mum and dad’s for a cuppa first.
What are you currently reading?
My lines. As soon as I stop doing the show for even a day, it’s like my brain totally wipes them from existence.
What are you currently listening to?
I’ve had the line I THINK IM GONNA DIE IN THIS HOUUUUSE from Charlie XCX’s new Wuthering Heights album on a loop in my brain for a few days. That whole album is unreal.
Happiness is?
Jacket Potato with cheese and beans.
What does the future hold for you?
Hopefully I will continue to do this for a job and have a laugh doing it. Working with good people with big artistic ambitions. I’m writing the show for TV – so that will be taking up a lot of the next year.
