Who is Meghna?
I am an artist (singer, songwriter, performer and actor) and I write and perform electro-pop songs about social issues and the human condition. I am a recent law and global studies university graduate too.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
Ooh, I wrote this down recently in my New Years resolution haha (which I hope to keep): I would love to get into the DJ world and spin tracks upon tracks. My music is very DJ-adjacent so it makes sense that this would be a skill that I should have. I have taken a few workshops before but have never pursued this to its fullest potential. Watch this space for DJ Meghna!
Who inspires you and why?
My mother. She works tirelessly at what she does, she never ever gives up and she is the most persistent, determined person I know. Determination is a quality that I truly value and I hope to have even just an ounce of what my mother has. My grandmother. She is incredibly strong-willed and has an incredible zest for life. She inspires me daily with her unwavering positivity and outlook on life.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I would utilise my platform to galvanise others to notice the world around them – the beauty, the deeper issues, the humanity. I would put pen to paper and write songs which reach the mainstream, spotlighting social issues that we need to address.
One of my many goals as a musician is to be a creative agent for positive social change, using lyrics and my platform alike to help right wrongs, address and innovate solutions for discrimination, conflict, disparity and injustice. Through my music I want to encourage people to not feel desensitized and/or powerless when they turn on the news and see the latest conflict – to feel motivated that they can make a positive change in the world.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
Singapore! I just love Singapore. I love the layout of the city, it’s so green, walkable and chill. I could go there a million times and still not get sick of it. Singapore… take me back!
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I actually just had my lovely friends from Belgium visit me back in July – so this is front of mind! I immediately took my friends to the NGV; it always has beautiful exhibitions, you can spend hours there and it’s a great instagrammable spot! Can’t go wrong. I also love Melbourne’s laneways – Degraves St is a personal favourite. It’s so unique to foreigners and totally Melbourne!
What are you currently reading?
I wish I could say I was reading something – I’m so busy and I always opt for TV (I know, terrible). I do have a copy of Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi sitting on my nightstand. I have been meaning to get to it for about 12 months (I got it last Christmas! I know, terrible). I also want to read Twice by Mitch Albom. My father received a copy for Christmas and I’m a sucker for those time-travel, Groundhog Day-esque plots.
What are you currently listening to?
I’m loving some of Fred Again’s new stuff from his latest drop. Personal favourite is Winny. I also love Victory Lap. Jarrod Costello (guitarist for Mashd N Kutcher) did a great remix of Victory Lap on Soundcloud and I can’t stop listening to it. Highly recommend. I’m also listening to Adela, PinkPantheress, various soundtracks from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Charli XCX and of course my all-time favourite Audrey Nuna.
Happiness is?
Hanging with my family, my friends, my beautiful pup, music, good food, good movies, travelling, success!
What does the future hold for you?
