Celebrating 90 glorious years of ‘innocent merriment’ from one of Australia’s oldest performing arts groups and 150 years of Trial By Jury, Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Victoria presents Jubilee at the Athenaeum Theatre 2 this October.
Beginning one of the most triumphant partnerships that the theatre has known, Trial By Jury, is “probably the most successful British one-act operetta of all time” (Kurt-Friedrich Gänzl), starting with a breach of promise of marriage and becoming a frothy courtroom comedy.
This performance will be followed by a historical and musical recreation of Gilbert and Sullivan productions in Victoria – with particular emphasis on the 90 years of this Society – ensuring a few musical surprises along the way.
With artistic direction by Diana Burleigh and musical direction by Timothy John Wilson, Jubilee will be presented by some of Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Victoria’s most brilliant performers, old and new, with a glorious chorus and full orchestra.
