Who is Samuel Addison?
Samuel Addison is an actor and content creator who recently moved to Sydney. I studied Theatre Arts at Curtin University and have been working with Feet First Collective, the producing house behind Shadow Boxing since 2019. I stream regularly on Twitch @inSAMnity_ and create social media content sporadically on TikTok @insamnity.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
I’d probably be a social media manager. If I wasn’t an actor I’d be more seriously committed to taking my content creation skills and applying them to businesses.
Who inspires you and why?
Inspiration comes and goes but, at the moment, its Markiplier. He rose to fame on the back of YouTube gaming videos, but in recent years has crafted one of the most meaningful watching experiences I’ve had through the YouTube channel Unus Annus which no longer exists (which is the point). He is in the final stages of writing, directing and producing a film called Iron Lung starring himself. He’s just so driven and passionate, and to see someone with ADHD just get up and do it, makes me wants to do the same.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
That’s a difficult question, especially with so much conflict and suffering in the world right now. I think there’s power in sharing stories, they can open space for reflection and empathy, help shift perspectives, connect us with one another, and remind us of our shared humanity. I’m grateful to play a part in that through the stories I get to share as an actor, and I hope that continues to make a difference in the world.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
The Gibb River Road – I really love being up in the Kimberley and Pilbara regions. Or Margaret River out on the surf!
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I haven’t been in Sydney long, but I really enjoyed going down to the Royal National Park and exploring that. However, I am keen to camp in the Blue Mountains and I suspect that will far exceed anything I’ve seen so far…
What are you currently reading?
As always, I am reading One Piece – which is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. As a weekly series that has been going on for over twenty-five years, I am never NOT reading One Piece. It is surprisingly relevant in our geo-political landscape with two countries now having had a revolution under the Jolly Roger.
What started as a fun, adventure series about a boy with rubber stretching powers who wanted to be King of the pirates has become an international symbol for freedom and the fight against government tyranny and oppressive forces. If you ever have the capacity to read a book or a comic, read One Piece. It’s a modern Odyssey and a truly inspiring piece of media, once you yield to the silly stuff.
What are you currently listening to?
The soundtrack to K-Pop Demon Hunters!
Happiness is?
Happiness is being able to pursue art freely, to dedicate time to your hobbies and to spend time with people you care about. Whether it’s a late-night gaming session, surfing before work or excitedly planning a new devised piece of theatre. Happiness is being able to creatively express yourself whilst surrounded by people you love.
What does the future hold for you?
Hopefully… money. But in all seriousness, I hope to have been cast in some of my dream roles (Red Power Ranger I’m looking at you), to have travelled the world and to be working non-stop with awesome people in theatre, on screen and online.
Samuel stars in Shadow Boxing – which will be presented at Flight Path Theatre, Marrickville, from 7 – 11 October 2025. For more information, visit: www.flightpaththeatre.org for details.
