On the Couch with Jason Arrow

Jason Arrow AAR On the CouchWho is Jason Arrow?
I am a Sydney-based Actor and Writer. I’ve been involved in the arts since high school, where I fell in love with it. Most notably, I’ve played Alexander Hamilton in Hamilton Australia and Hamilton International.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
If I had hindsight, I’d have made sure to take many more dance classes in my younger years, specifically in the early teens, because the value that would’ve brought me now is immeasurable!

Who inspires you and why?
I never know how to answer this question! It’s a constantly shifting thing for me, but I would have to say that anyone who is currently doing what they love in their career and achieving their definition of success is a great example. That’s always something I strive to do, so I’m inspired by anyone doing it themselves.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
That’s always a tricky question to answer. There are SO MANY things in the world that could do with changing for the better, it’s always hard to pick just one thing. But I think it’d be people’s acceptance of others and their opinions. Especially when those people aren’t hurting anyone, it seems crazy not to allow them the freedom to be who they want to be.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
I’ve been fortunate enough to travel extensively for work, but Paris was absolutely amazing when we visited during the changeover between Abu Dhabi and Singapore. I loved the architecture and culture. Every corner was steeped in history, and it felt like walking around in a painting; it was gorgeous!

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Depends on which town I’m in! But if it’s Sydney, definitely anywhere along the Harbour or any beach. Sydney is so majestic, I love experiencing it myself, let alone taking others around to see the sights.

What are you currently reading?
Not reading so much as writing at the moment! Writing my own fictional novel series, called Sovereign. It’s coming along really well, just passed the 80,000-word mark, but I’m not in a rush to complete it any time soon, so don’t hold your breath!

What are you currently listening to?
The Lovers, of course, but always on the lookout for Lo-fi artists or anything Jazz adjacent.

Happiness is?
Getting to work in a career that makes you happy and work with people who are incredibly open and honest.

What does the future hold for you?
Who knows?! I’m always happy to leave the future slightly up to chance, even though the thought is a bit terrifying at times. With what I do, it’s good to keep all avenues and options open, never know, it might be a book deal… Allen and Unwin, what’s up?
