On the Couch with Adam-Jon Fiorentino

Adam-Jon Fiorentino AAR On the CouchWho is Adam-Jon Fiorentino?
I’m a dad, a husband, an explorer of the human condition (artist), and a big old nerd. I am a mixed bag of Italian/Irish/Scottish heritage, the last one crept up on me when I did my family tree. I love cooking, spending time with friends and family, and reading way too much fantasy/sci fi.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
When I was young I wanted to be a doctor. I love a puzzle and dissecting a problem to work it out.

Who inspires you and why?
My wife and son are huge inspirations for me. My wife has an incredible way of seeing and bringing out the good in people. My son constantly surprises me with his openness and insight into how he is feeling or what he might be struggling with. I didn’t have any of his introspection when I was his age.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Are we talking an infinite money situation? If that’s the case then be sure no-one is left without opportunity. There is so much potential out there that will never be realised because those individuals are never given a chance. Food, shelter, health and education should be accessible to all.

If we are talking about what I can do now? It’s hopefully create work that in some way shifts peoples perspective to lead them to a more open and accepting mindset. Leave it better than when I got here kinda vibe.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
It’s Japan at the moment. I love the food and culture. How they have managed a mix of modern tech without losing their sense of heritage and history. My son and I also love our Anime so what better destination.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
The NGV is a favourite of mine. There is always something fascinating to see and it hasn’t failed me yet. It is also in such a great spot being so close to the city and Southbank. Throw in a coffee down Degraves and a cocktail next to the river and you have a full day of fun.

What are you currently reading?
No Reservations by Anthony Bourdain. It been part of the prep for Miss Julie.

What are you currently listening to?
A lot of Connor Price and Nic D. As a family we are a little obsessed at the moment, we are going to his concert here in Melbourne later in the year.

Happiness is?
The moments where we are able to let go of the ‘life worries’ and just be present with loved ones. Gathered around a table in the backyard, beautiful weather, bbq fired up, cold beer in hand sounds pretty happy to me.

What does the future hold for you?
Haha I wish I knew. One thing about this industry you work out quick is you can’t predict any of it. I have recently gotten my Certification in Intimacy Coordination so looking at doing more of that. Creating a safe, creative environment for my fellow performers to work in.

Adam-Jon can be seen in Company 16’s production of Miss Julie by August Strindberg – currently playing at fortyfivedownstairs until 17 August 2025. For more information, visit: www.fortyfivedownstairs.com for details.
