On the Couch with Jenevieve Chang

AAR Jenevieve Chang photo by Sally FleggWho is Jenevieve Chang?
I came to writing after a spectacularly failed attempt at opening China’s first burlesque club, returning home with some incredible stories to tell.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
My sliding doors moment would see me running a wildly successful contemporary dance company in Berlin.

Who inspires you and why?
My 5-year-old son. He’s a constant reminder of the magic of experiencing the world through a prism of joy, innocence and indefatigable energy.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Replace division across borders with empathy.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Spain. For its day siestas and nocturnal adventures.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I’d take them for a walk along the Cooks River in Marrickville. Unburdened by the glamour of Sydney Harbour, the Cooks presents a truer story of the cost of development as well as the grace and grit of community.

What are you currently reading?
Highway 13 by Fiona McFarlane.

What are you currently listening to?
The Pixies.

Happiness is?
Contributing to the happiness of others.

What does the future hold for you?
I hope it continues to pleasantly surprise me.
