Ma Non Troppo: A Mother’s Love

Ma Non TroppoJoin Ma Non Troppo for their inaugural concert, A Mother’s Love, celebrating Mother’s Day with an evening of beautiful choral music at St Peter’s Anglican Church Hall on Saturday 10 May 2025.

This special performance explores themes of love and devotion, with a program designed to inspire and uplift. Don’t miss this choral tribute to mothers everywhere. Directed by Christopher Watson (The Tallis Scholars, Trinity College Melbourne), the concert will feature works by Verdi, Elgar, Tavener, Mouton, and more.

“It’s been a while since a new choir was launched in Melbourne, a city that is blessed with so many excellent singing ensembles,” says Christopher Watson. But we felt the time was right, and have been encouraged by lots of singers who have been looking for an opportunity to sing but whose professional lives don’t allow them to commit to weekly rehearsals.”

“The name Ma Non Troppo started as a bit of a musical joke (it means But Not Too Much, and is often used by composers who want performers to speed up or slow down or change dynamics, but only a little bit) but we realised that it was the perfect name for a group of musicians who come together just three or four times and then perform a concert.”

“We had an extensive audition process and have assembled a really fine group of singers who sightread well and who have beautiful voices, and we can’t wait for people to hear our first performance,” said Watson.
