Who is Kevin Hofbauer?
I’m a father of two amazing identical twin boys, Melbourne based actor by day and forklift driver at night. Keep fit by boxing and keep delaying that with my love for food and sleep.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
I feel my passion for food might direct me in something toward that life genre. My grandfather was a chef and since an early age I have always enjoyed being in the kitchen. I also love teaching drama to children and young adults so perhaps being a teacher would also be on the cards.
Who inspires you and why?
My parents inspire me because they both created what they have from so little. My mother came from a tiny country called Tuvalu and my father came to Australia at an early age from Austria. Both built their lives from the ground up and took control of their own destinies. Also my children inspire me. They inspire me to be great and to do great things.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I owe a lot to the teachers I had in high school to where I am now and what I’ve accomplished. It’s not a world turning difference but I would teach and inspire children through the arts. Teaching them that the confidence gained through acting can be taken into all walks of life.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
It’s hard to chose just one but in the mood that I’m in right now I think I’d choose Queenstown, New Zealand. I love the cooler weather and the food and wine scene there is a real treat. Also can’t ignore the beautiful scenery.
When friends come to town, what attraction are you taking them to and why?
As someone who really enjoys food, I will always try and impress them with the amazing culinary options Melbourne has to offer. Whether that be a pub meal, winery or fine dining, we have it all. Victoria Market always is a go to for those who haven’t been to Melbourne before.
What are you currently reading?
A lot of UberEats menus.
What are you currently listening to?
My music tastes vary and what I listen to is very mood dependent. Currently what’s getting a lot of mileage is a mix of Latin Hiphop. But on the drive home from the theatre it’s pretty common that a good classic by Journey or Whitesnake gets belted out. If I’m too tired for that level of commitment then something more chill like Tyler Childers will get me home safe. Love some good country music. I’m all over the shop. It’s great!
Happiness is?
Seeing my kids smile. Watching them have fun on the trampoline while living in a make believe world with no adult stresses. Hearing the patter of their feet on the floor boards when they’re making their way to my room for very EARLY morning cuddles.
What does the future hold for you?
I don’t want to know. Where’s the fun in that?
Kevin stars in Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre’s production of The Comeuppance by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins – which plays the Red Stitch Theatre from 26 April – 25 May 2025. For more information, visit: www.redstitch.net for details.
