On the Couch with David Rose

David Rose AAR On the CouchWho is David Rose?
David Rose is a construct of the society around him, and in fact does not exist outside of subjective experience. We are all merely a pattern of energy repeating itself. With that said, from our perspective, David Rose is a stand-up comedian based in Melbourne. He lives with his American fiancée and American cat and tells jokes for a living.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
I’d have been much more wealthy and famous.

Who inspires you and why?
Wealthy and famous people! (Not really.) I’m inspired by artists who evolve and bring their audiences along for the ride. The Beatles, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Billie Eilish, George Carlin, Bill Hicks, Bill Burr, just to name a few. I’m also listening to a lot of great female-led pop at the moment. Is there anything better than Sabrina Carpenter belting out a ballad? I don’t think so.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I’d probably try to smother Rupert Murdoch if I could get close enough to him.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Rupert Murdoch’s grave, once he’s in it.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I like taking people to my hometown in the Dandenong Ranges and watch their eyes widen as the trees loom over them and the concrete turns to gravel. It’s surprising how few people driven on a dirt road. It’s even more surprising how many of my friends think I plan to kill them once we’re on a dirt road.

What are you currently reading?
I’m usually reading about 4 books at once. The current list is The Retreat of Western Liberalism, Fire Weather, Diary of a Crisis and World War Z. I just finished Tim Winton’s Juice and thought it was a stunning feat of literary genius.

What are you currently listening to?
At the moment I’m listening to a lot of musical theatre. I’m neck deep in the Phantom and Tick, Tick, Boom! albums.

Happiness is?
A warm gun! (bang bang, shoot shoot). Great Beatles song.

What does the future hold for you?
I’m getting married next month, so hopefully marriage, assuming she doesn’t find someone better in the next few weeks.
