Who is Andrew Buchanan?
Andrew Buchanan is an award-winning actor and teaching artist.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
Storytelling is my great love – maybe a writer? Having said that – I have a great love of nature and wildlife. So…
Who inspires you and why?
A friend of mine, Robbie Curtis – who runs a shelter for the homeless of inner-city Brisbane. He has built a safe place for our most vulnerable – bringing hope and healing to those who need it most.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Sadly, more than 116,000 Australians are homeless today. So, I don’t need to look very far to encounter those in need, locally. My time, finances and simple encouragement can make a real difference.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
Rome. For the history, the art and most importantly – the FOOD!
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat situated in the heart of the Lamington National Park (90 mins from home). It’s a Jurassic wonder.
What are you currently reading?
G-Man: J. Edgar Hoover and the Making of the American Century by Beverly Gage.
What are you currently listening to?
I’m listening to recordings of the many harmony parts I need to learn for Calamity Jane (at Queensland Theatre) … over and over and over again. I’m a bit slow (musically).
Happiness is?
Knowing that in life – it’s not about you.
What does the future hold for you?
My daughter is having a baby in July – so that’s what I’ll be holding!
Andrew stars as Henry Miller in Queensland Theatre’s production of Calamity Jane – which is currently playing in the Bille Brown Theatre until 17 April 2025. For more information, visit: www.queenslandtheatre.com.au for details.
