As a boy in the 1980s with dreams of being a detective, I fell hard for Murder, She Wrote. I love the show and adore Angela Lansbury even more. But I can’t claim the “super-fan” status of Tim Benzie, who hosts this brilliant interactive event.
Solve-Along-A-Murder-She-Wrote turns a classic episode into a lively game show. The format is simple but fun. We watch an episode on the big screen while playing along to spot clues.
Each audience member gets a showbag on arrival. Inside you’ll find key tools for the night’s games. The “Fameometer” tracks guest stars you might know from other shows. The “Suspiciometer” helps us vote on who looks guilty as the plot unfolds.
Benzie pauses the action at key moments for votes, trivia, and plenty of laughs. He shares insider facts about the show and pokes gentle fun at its quirks. The crowd joins in with cheers, boos, and gasps at all the right moments.
The blend of screening and live action works like a charm. The Mercury Cinema proves the perfect space for this two-hour event. Its movie-sized screen shows every detail of Jessica’s knowing looks.
The raised stage gives Benzie room to work his magic as our game show host. He brings boundless energy and sharp wit to the role. An intermission splits the show nicely, letting everyone catch their breath.
The M rating might surprise some – until you learn Jessica Fletcher can identify amyl nitrate by its bottle and smell. Who knew our favourite mystery writer was so worldly? Benzie’s timing is spot-on throughout, and his love for the material shines in every joke.
Hardcore Murder, She Wrote fans will find this a must-see highlight of Adelaide Fringe 2025. But newcomers need not worry. You’ll watch a full episode from start to finish. Benzie’s five-star-worthy hosting makes sure everyone feels welcome in Jessica Fletcher’s world.
