Who is Darrin Redgate?
Darrin is all about variety being the spice of life. I’ve had (well still having) a successful corporate career, I was a Rugby League referee for 27 years and I’ve had my own theatre company (as a hobby) since 1993. I’m betting no one else can claim that trifecta?
What would you do differently from what you do now?
Nothing, I’m happy and content.
Who inspires you and why?
One of the reasons I turned from acting to directing is the joy I get from helping actors be the best they can be. I’m particularly inspired by young actors who show wisdom beyond their years and also have a strong worth ethic. They are a joy to be around
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I’d sort out America, if I could, as a start!
Favourite holiday destination and why?
I don’t get away on holiday very often, I’m often too busy between work and theatre projects. I’m fond of Hawaii, The Greek Islands and Croatia but its been 8 years since I last left AUS.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I like the history of places, so if I had friends that have never been here before (I haven’t), I’d take them to as many historical sites as I could think of.
What are you currently reading?
Scripts, scripts and scripts. Looking for my next couple of theatre projects. I cant give too much away yet in case someone else beats me to the rights.
What are you currently listening to?
I’m a huge Gary Numan fan (who I hear everyone say). His music has been important to me since the early 80s and he still records today. His style has changed but my taste has changed along with it.
Happiness is?
A sunny quiet spot, my favourite tunes and calm clear water. It’s where I’m most relaxed.
What does the future hold for you?
I’m hoping to retire from the corporate world in about 12 months but we will see how the stock market behaves before committing to that. My 2024 has been super busy, so I’m taking a theatre break for a few months, then it will be back into my next project. Stay tuned…
