Palace Cinemas have announced it will be reviving the historic Regent Cinema in Ballarat, ensuring the doors of this cherished landmark will reopen on Thursday 3 October 2024.
As the cinema approaches its centennial celebration since opening in 1928, Palace Cinemas will continue the tradition of showcasing blockbuster films cherished by locals while introducing our acclaimed international film festivals and premium upmarket films.
Opening in 1928, the Regent Cinema was one of the largest in regional Victoria with nearly 2000 seats across the stalls and balcony levels. The theatre was originally designed by Melbourne architects Arthur W. Purnell and Cedric H. Ballantyne, the latter being the architect responsible for Melbourne’s Regent Theatre.

The newly branded Palace Regent Ballarat will feature the Palace’s signature offerings, including our award-winning olive oil popcorn, gourmet Connoisseur choc tops, and a handpicked wine selection known for its generous pour sizes.
In addition to these premium offerings, the Palace Regent Ballarat will host a variety of special events and sessions including Student Saver Days, Senior Saver Days, Babes in Arms screenings, Family Film Passes, discounted Movie Club member sessions, and exclusive previews and premieres.
To celebrate this exciting new chapter, members of the Palace Movie Club, available in both free and premium tiers, can enjoy $15 standard sessions – exclusively for the Ballarat community.
