Who is Kiandra Howarth?
I‘m Kiandra Howarth, born and raised on the Gold Coast and currently live in Hannover, Germany where I am a full-time member of the solo ensemble at the State opera company (Staatsoper Hannover).
What would you do differently from what you do now?
Absolutely nothing! I love what I do and have worked so hard to build a career in the opera industry (with the help and guidance of very supportive family, teachers and mentors). I couldn’t ever imagine doing anything else.
Who inspires you and why?
My family. I wouldn’t be here without their unending love and support.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Stop war!
Favourite holiday destination and why?
If not Australia, then I would have to say Rome. I absolutely adore Italy, and Rome has it all. Amazing weather, food, culture and architecture!
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
On the Gold Coast I would always take visitors to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. It’s such a wonderful place which I believe showcases the best of Australian wildlife in such a gorgeous setting.
What are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading the Southern Reach Trilogy by Jan Vandermeer. They are such exciting novels!
What are you currently listening to?
I’m currently listening to Strauss’ opera Arabella, as I prepare to make my debut in the title role later this year along with the new album from London Grammar, The Greatest Love.
Happiness is?
Happiness is being able to perform in my home country with all of my family in the audience. My grandmother is 94 years old, and it is such a gift that she is able to see me perform back home. I am so grateful for all of the wonderful opportunities that lie ahead.
What does the future hold for you?
The future holds endless possibilities. I’m looking forward to debuting some dream roles of mine in the upcoming seasons, and continuing to grow both personally and professionally. I’m also excited to return to Australia to perform again soon!
