Who is Tim Gilmour?
Tim Gilmour is a Frankston-based writer, actor and gardener. When not doing his day job he is normally scribbling down show ideas or hosting rehearsals in his lounge room. He is also the writer and co-star for Babble Productions Vikings vs Climate Change – a comedy play coming to Melbourne Fringe 2023.
What would you do differently from what you do now?
I would spend more time working on shows! There are only so many hours in the day and so much effort I have to give whilst working full time.
Who inspires you and why?
I’m honestly inspired by so many of my peers working in the Melbourne independent theatre scene. During last year’s Fringe festival, when I wasn’t performing, I was seeing as many other acts as I could. There are so many great artists out there that inspire me, I couldn’t pick just one.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I would love to see not only more environmental conservation, but also help rejuvenate areas that have been negatively impacted by human activity.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
Within Australia, the mid-north coast of NSW has a smattering of small towns perfect for getting away from the stress of life. You can spend all morning in the surf and when the sun gets too strong you can visit endless small, artisanal businesses for something interesting to see (and maybe eat). It’s where I went on my honeymoon. If you have the coin to go overseas; visit Turkey and particularly Istanbul. It has the perfect blend of history, culture and excitement.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Mornington isn’t very far from where I live. When friends or relatives come visit from out of town, I take them there. There’s a fantastic main promenade with stacks of places to eat. At the end of the street there’s a sheltered beach with a yacht club just off to the left. If the weather holds up, you can normally get a stunning sunset over the water.
What are you currently reading?
I just finished Circe by Madeline Miller. It builds on the world of Homer’s Odyssey, focusing on Circe the witch and her origin story and what she does on her island. It features gods, curses and pages upon pages of Circe tending to everything on her island. It’s a great read that immerses the reader into the world of Greek myths in a new and contemporary fashion.
What are you currently listening to?
I’m currently trying to compile the best driving playlist for cruising around in the truck at work. It contains a wide range of eras and artists; from Hendrix to Rick James, Creedence to Lana Del Rey. Check it out, it’s called the DeltaTango super chill driving playlist on Spotify.
Happiness is?
Happiness is a warm summer night at dusk. The sky is purple and the cicadas are chirping. The doors are open and a cool breeze has just come through the house. I’m cooking spaghetti with a spatula in one hand and a glass of wine in the other.
What does the future hold for you?
I’m going to keep making shows. I have a lot of ideas yet to be realised and would like to share them with anyone who will come see. I’m very lucky to have enjoyed success with Brawl Along the Watchtower at last year’s Fringe and hope people will enjoy Vikings vs Climate Change. I can’t wait for what the future holds.
