Fabio Motta: Spot

MICF-Fabio-Motta-Spot-photo-by-Underground-MediaA witty and incredibly funny original solo show that ransacks the question of whether Australia really is the inclusive, multicultural place it believes itself to be? Fabio Motta presents Spot as part of the 2022 Melbourne International Comedy Festival at the Explosives Factory from 5 – 15 April.

Created and performed by multi-disciplinary artist Fabio Motta and inspired by true events, Spot invites audiences on a remarkable journey complete with satire, physical comedy, and unforgettable characters.

Delving into the hazardous adventure of young migrant, Mario (and his devilish alter ego Spot) this wonderful return season explores one man’s dream of becoming a “very good English actor!” and maybe one day even tackling Shakespeare… all with no grasp of the English language.

An insightful comment of the difficulties in trying to fit in, Spot is a comic and captivating story about language barriers, the contemporary immigrant experience, and the deep sense of loss that is an inevitable part of leaving everything you know and love for the hope of a brighter future.

“Audiences can expect to be challenged by many of the themes in Spot, and maybe even feel slightly uncomfortable – but they can also expect to laugh a lot,” explains creator/performer Fabio Motta.

“It’s a highly physical and energetic performance that has a lot to say about what it truly means to belong, no matter if “you flew here or grew here” – finding a place to belong is at the heart of the human experience.”

“The show draws on physical theatre forms such as Bouffon, Clown, character comedy and Commedia Dell’arte and I hope the audience walks out of the theatre with a belly full of laughter, and lots of interesting conversations to be had on the walk home,” said Motta.

Playing as a part of the 2022 Melbourne International Comedy Festival at Theatre Works’ new performance space, Explosives Factory, this limited return season is a truly unique addition to MICF, not to be missed.
