Celebrating visual artists throughout South Australia, the 2014 SALA Festival kicks off this week with a special event at the Art Gallery of South Australia on Thursday 31 July.
To be officially opened by the Hon Jack Snelling Minister for the Arts, the innovative visual arts festival this year features a record breaking 547 exhibitions and events with 4,627 artists participating.
The recipient of the 2015 SALA book published by Wakefield Press will also be announced on the night and the 2014 SALA publication devoted to the work and world of celebrated South Australian artist Nicholas Folland will also be launched.
Highlights of the 2014 festival include the open studio weekend on 9 & 10 August, a range of art tours and artists talks including a new artist forum day titled The Artists’ Voice featuring panel discussions and debate on Sunday 17 August at the Art Gallery of South Australia.
The festival will culminate with a final day celebration, SALA on Show on Sunday 24 August with huge day of visual art activities including a pop-up gallery with art works for sale, artists in residence, family art workshops and entertainment throughout the day.
