Young Australian Broadway Chorus to present Les Misérables in January 2019

YABC Les Misérables artworkIn January 2019, the Young Australian Broadway Chorus (YABC) will mount an epic production of the world’s most popular musical Les Misérables.

Winner of over 100 international awards and seen by over 65 million people worldwide, Les Misérables is an epic and uplifting story about the survival of the human spirit. This true modern classic is based on Victor Hugo’s novel and features one of the most memorable scores of all time.

In nineteenth century France, Jean Valjean is released from 19 years of unjust imprisonment, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a lifelong struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe that Valjean can change his ways.

Following its acclaimed youth production of Wicked in 2018, Les Misérables will be presented with a cast and orchestra of young people, and play at the National Theatre, St Kilda, Melbourne for 10 performances from 18 January 2019.

This is an amazing opportunity for talented young performers to experience the intensive rehearsal process that goes into creating a major musical production, as well as the thrill of performing an iconic work like Les Misérables. The rehearsals and performances will take place in the school holidays in December 2018/January 2019.

The YABC is a well known for its programs and productions for young people. Each year, thousands of children and young adults participate in musical theatre training with the organisation, culminating in spectacular seasons of concerts at the National Theatre.

YABC is now accepting casting submissions ahead of its auditions in Moreland in late July. Applications are currently open to young people who will be aged 15-21 during the performance season in January 2019.
