Winners of 29th annual Linden Postcard Show announced

Linden Postcard Show 2019-20 (installation view) - photo by Theresa Harrison PhotographyLinden New Art has announced the winners of the 29th annual small works exhibition, Linden Postcard Show 2019-20, which attracted a record-breaking 1,250 entries from living artists across the country.

The challenging task of considering over 1,200 brilliant small artworks fell on the shoulders of two independent judges: Julie McLaren, Curator at Ballarat Art Gallery and Director Phillip Adams of Temperance Hall and BalletLab.

The winning postcard entry was Mark Hopper with his 2019 artwork titled Shaun the Wanderer.

When carefully deliberating the overall winner, both judges said: “We were drawn to the haunting and arresting subject of the winning work. The person captured made us feel alarmed and concerned…”

Linden Postcard Show First Prize – $2,500 cash prize Supported by the Palais Theatre Community Fund Award Mark Hopper, Shaun the Wanderer, 2019, photograph.

Artist Encouragement Award – $1,500 cash prize Supported by Elwood Community Bank of Bendigo Bank Charmaine & Jakson Kvalic, The Likely Lad of Lilydale, 2019, silk.

Best Portrait Award – $1,000 cash prize Supported by Rotary Club of South Melbourne Robert Fenton, We Can Fix This, I Think!, 2019, oil painting.

Local Artist Award – $600 cash plus image on a greeting card Supported by the Member for Albert Park, Hon. Martin Foley MP Samantha Moses, Turning 50, 2019, digital print (pictured left).

Best Landscape Award – $500 voucher to spend in store Supported by Eckersely’s Art & Craft Greg Quinton, Figure In Landscape 4, 2019, mixed media.

Best Still Life Award – $500 voucher to spend in store Supported by Scout Home Goods Bianca Harrington, Three Waters, 2019, acrylic.

Best Photograph – $400 cash prize Supported by This Week In St Kilda David Apostol, 2884/23, 2019, photograph.
