Based on the stage play by David Wood, The Witches re-imagines Roald Dahl’s twisted yet endearing story as a family-friendly one-man performance at the Malthouse Theatre for a limited season.
Acclaimed performer Guy Edmonds (ABC’s A Moody Christmas) single-handedly conjures up a coven of plotting and scheming and churning and burning witches, a gaggle of squeaky children and everything in between for an experience as ghastly as it is gleeful.
Thrilling, chilling and a whole lot of fun – bring the kids and join an orphaned boy as he outsmarts a world of child-hating, child-smelling witches and proves magic is real and wickedly fun.
“Edmonds appears to relish finding the voices and physicality of the boy narrator, his grandmother, the naughty kid Bruno, and a ‘Hitleresque’ Grand High Witch.” – The Sydney Morning Herald
The Witches was originally produced at NIDA in 2012 and co-designed by Becky-Dee Trevenen and Hugh O’Connor and is a co-production with Sydney’s Griffin Theatre Company.
