The Witches

The Witches_editorialThink you can outwit a witch and outrun a mouse? Then get ready for The Witches bursting on to the Monkey Baa stage at Lend Lease Darling Quarter Theatre for a limited school holiday season from 30 June 2015.

When one little boy unwittingly stumbles into the annual meeting of witches, he hears their nasty plan to get rid of all the children in the world – by turning them into mice! It’s going to take smarts and sneakiness to stop them and not get squished in the process.

After a sell out season at the Griffin Theatre in 2014, Lucas Jervies returns to direct this bubbling concoction, based on David Wood’s adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic, with Guy Edmonds (Holding The Man, ABC’s A Moody Christmas) running amok in a virtuosic physical performance.

Brave boys and girls, rat-racers and retirees are in for a wicked and wonderful time with this mind-boggling and madcap one-man show. Thrilling, chilling and a whole lot of fun – bring the kids and join an orphaned boy as he outsmarts a world of child-hating, child-smelling witches and proves magic is real and wickedly fun.

The Monkey Baa and the Griffin Theatre Companies will be at their most mischievous for The Witches – just in time for the school holidays.

“Edmonds appears to relish finding the voices and physicality of the boy narrator, his grandmother, the naughty kid Bruno, and a ‘Hitleresque’ Grand High Witch.” – The Sydney Morning Herald
