How far would you go to protect the world you’d made? The Melbourne Festival heads Northside in 2014 for Melbourne-premiere season of MKA’s The Trouble with Harry by Lachlan Philpott from Saturday 18 October 2014.
The festival’s flagship independent Australian theatre offering, The Trouble with Harry tells the true-crime story of Eugenia Falleni, who passed as a man in early 1900s in Sydney.
Living as Harry Crawford, Falleni was convicted of the murder of his spouse in 1920, a crime that captured the imaginations of Australians nation-wide: How did Falleni pass as a man during years of marriage? How could his female partner not have known? What went on in the bedroom? Why did it end in murder?
Written by multi-award winning writer Lachlan Philpott, the piece responds imaginatively to persistent and sensationalist speculation about the Falleni case and offers the audience a very human side of the story with focus on the shifting dynamics in domestic relationships.
Founded in 2010, MKA: Theatre of New Writing is Australia’s premiere international new writing theatre company with a particular interest in South-east Asian works.
